WORKING WITH THE HOMELESS AT ST MUNGO'S One of our major projects is working with the homeless living in hostels and projects run by the homeless charity St Mungo's. This is an essential project which provides hostel residents with meaningful occupation and works to provide help and support which enables them to come to terms with the traumatic experience of homelessness and develop successful strategies for resettlement, training and returning to society. It is at this stage where our projects are often at their most effective and our projects not only help these people to find themselves and regain their self-confidence but also provides them with an almost immediate and solid support network which often remains long past the time they have resettled themselves back into mainstream society. WORKING WITH THE HOMELESS AT THAMESREACH We are also developing a similar project with Thamesreach but with a broader scope - as this project not only works with hostel residents but also with recently resettled homeless people living in their own accommodation and also working with the street homeless at day centres and through outreach facilities. This project is also essential, for the trauma of homelessness usually doesn't end with someone being allocated new accommodation, and the experience of resettlement presents new challenges which must be faced and dealt with. For the recently resettled there's an additional component which helps participants be able to successfully network and gather contacts and resources for their own eventual occupation and reestablishment in society. |
